Hiking in Finland, made clear

Finland's best long-distance trails, explained for first-timers.

Weather by season, water and right-to-roam rules, how to actually get there, and what services you'll find along the way — the things guidebooks gloss over. Tap a trail to start.

I'm a Finnish hiker, and I've personally visited every national park listed here.

I'm a Finnish hiker based in Finland. I've also hiked in many countries across different continents, so I know first-hand how hard it is to find reliable, genuinely relevant information for planning a self-guided trek. I built this site because much of the English-language information out there is incomplete, outdated, or hard to find — some of it is simply wrong.

I haven't hiked these trails in winter, so the winter sections draw on official park information and my own research. Winter hiking in Finland is only recommended for very experienced hikers.

Well-marked, well-served routes where huts, water points and shelter are never far. A relaxed introduction to Finland's fells — including a classic half-day walk to where three countries meet.

A longer, well-marked classic with more distance and bigger days, but still good infrastructure along the way.

Remote routes that are partly or fully unmarked, with river crossings and real distances between shelters. Finland's trails are superbly signposted as a rule, but on these routes a map and compass are strongly recommended.
