About

A contextualising layer, not another route database.

Arctic Bound exists for first-time visitors to Finland and the Nordics: the practical things an outsider doesn't know. Not where the path goes — Komoot and AllTrails already do that — but whether the stream water is safe, what "everyman's right" actually permits, how you reach the trailhead, and what the season is really like.

I'm a Finnish hiker based in Finland, and I've personally visited every national park listed here. I've also hiked in many countries across different continents, so I know first-hand how hard it is to find reliable, genuinely relevant information for planning a self-guided trek. I built this site because much of the English-language information out there is incomplete, outdated, or hard to find — some of it is simply wrong.

I haven't hiked these trails in winter, so the winter sections draw on official park information and my own research. Winter hiking in Finland is only recommended for very experienced hikers.

Trail data is compiled from Metsähallitus / nationalparks.fi and operator listings. Always verify current details before you travel.
