Privacy & Cookie Policy
This page explains what data Arctic Bound (arcticbound.fi) collects, the cookies it uses, and your choices and rights. It's written in plain English to describe what the site actually does. If anything is unclear, get in touch — see the contact details below.
The short version
- The site sets no analytics or advertising cookies by default.
- Nothing non-essential loads until you click “Accept” in the cookie banner.
- “Reject” is offered just as prominently as “Accept”, and you can change your mind any time via “Cookie settings” in the footer.
- We don't run our own user accounts, logins, or tracking profiles.
Who runs this site
Arctic Bound is an independent hiking-information site about Finland and the Nordics. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights described below, contact us at boundarctic@gmail.com.
Cookies and how consent works
A cookie banner appears on your first visit. Until you make a choice, the
site loads only what's strictly necessary to display the page. Your choice
is stored in your browser (using a small localStorage entry,
ab-consent-v1) so the banner doesn't reappear on every page.
That stored choice is the only thing kept without your consent, and it
contains no personal data and isn't shared.
Cookie categories
- Strictly necessary (always on). Remembering your cookie choice. No tracking, no sharing. These don't require consent.
- Analytics (off until you accept). The site currently uses no analytics. If analytics are added later, they will load only after you accept, and this policy will be updated to say what is used.
- Advertising (off until you accept). The site currently shows no ads. Advertising is planned (see below); ad cookies will load only after you accept.
Advertising (planned)
We intend to show ads in future, likely via Google AdSense. If and when ads are enabled, the ad provider may set cookies and process data to show personalised or non-personalised ads — but only after you have given consent through the cookie banner. You will be able to withdraw that consent at any time via “Cookie settings”. Google's handling of data is described in Google's policy.
Maps
Trail pages and the homepage show interactive maps built with Leaflet, using map tiles from OpenStreetMap. When a map loads, your device requests those tiles directly from OpenStreetMap's servers, which means your IP address is visible to them as part of that request. Maps are part of the site's core functionality. See the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To deliver and secure the site, Cloudflare may process technical data such as your IP address and basic request information in its server logs. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Web fonts
The site uses the Inter typeface, loaded from rsms.me. Loading a
font from that server means your IP address is visible to it as part of the
request. No cookies are set for this.
Affiliate links
The site does not currently use affiliate links. If any are added in future, we'll clearly disclose that some outbound links are affiliate links.
Your rights
If you're in the EU/EEA, the GDPR gives you rights over your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete or restrict it, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time (do this via “Cookie settings” in the footer). To exercise any of these, email boundarctic@gmail.com.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Finland this is the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves — for example, when analytics or ads are switched on. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change.
